About 30 young people from Artsakh, Yerevan and Diaspora will participate in the excavations of Tigranakert August 10-15. “Our goal is to invite such young people who are aware of history, are majoring in archeology or are political analysts or international scientists. That is to say our prior issue is to invite the interested circles,” head of the Youth affairs department of the NKR Culture and Youth Affairs Ministry Tigran Atanesyan told Armenpress.
Head of the Artsakh archeological excavation
group of the Archeology and Ethnography Institute of the Armenian Academy of
Sciences Hamlet Petrosyan said during one of his news conferences that the
extended excavations, additional cleaning of the monument and preservation of
the landscape’s appearance, the whole process of informing the public about the
works – publications, creation of web site, exhibitions – and finally the
creation of Tigranakert archeological museum are the important part of the
process. As a result, today Tigranakert has the greatest number of visitors and
public knows about it. In this respect Atanesyan highlighted the importance of
the monument, adding that during the excavations the necessity of additional
force and young people is great.
Five archeologists, two architects,
tens of students from Yerevan and Artsakh state universities and more than 40
workers are participating in the Tigranakert research works. The excavations are
made in the territory of the citadel, northern fence and Basilica church
sectors.
